Supporters of Women Bishops are Nazis!

Wallace Benn

Yeh… not really… although a title like this probably gives a few extra hits!

Although that’s how the press are “quoting” Bishop Wallace Benn today.

The Telegraph being a classic example of sensationalist journalism, and blatant untruth.

This all comes from a Q&A at the Reform conference… of which Ruth Gledhill, of The Times posted a video of (see below).

I’d like to respond to what Ruth Gledhill has written… but in an age of blogs, Internet and Social Media I still find it hard for a newspaper to justify charging for it’s content… maybe I’ll cough up one day!

Make your mind up… as you can see, no mention of Nazis… and quite rightly Bishop Benn stands by his comments (not the twisted version of them though) on Radio 4. No one likes a War Metaphor… but, unless provisions are made for ‘Traditionalists’ that’s where it’s heading!

Wallace Benn – The Power of the Cross

The Sunday night celebration at Bible by the Beach was packed out as the doors were opened for all who would come, to come for free… simultaneously there was a free youth event called Curious? with music from Simon Brading and Andrew Wilson speaking.

The Congress theatre was packed, apparently the last complete sell out event was ‘Hank Marvin and the Shadows’… maybe next year will be a complete sell out!

The Sunday night event always has a strong mission focus… last year we heard from Ben Kwashi, Archbishop of Jos (Northern Nigeria), this year we heard a video report from him, praising God for his faithfulness in the midst of great persecution. We also heard from Ray of Hope Amazon, a charity working to support the practical and spiritual needs of 80,000 untouched villages along the Amazon river.

We were encouraged to give generously to support these two projects and the on going work of Bible by the Beach – if you’d like to donate you can give online. Stuart Townend and Phatfish lead us in joyful praise to God.

Wallace Benn, Bishop of Lewes, and chairman of Bible by the Beach took us to John 18… the Garden of Gethsemane… showing us how John explains what the cross is all about… The King crossing the Kidron Valley, a scene in a garden, the cup… Wallace pointed us to the Biblical allusions, to the true meaning of the cross… loving explaining the doctrine of penal substitution.

This evening was head informing, heart warming and will changing… a great night celebrating the cross of Christ and his call to take the gospel to all nations.

Bible by the Beach

…was great! You should come next year.

I didn’t get much blogging done, but hope to get some rough talk notes up soon. In the mean time check out the new BBTB Website, you’ll find a Blog, posting conference snippets, a few freebie talks, online shop for media sales (£1 downloads coming soon), and a few pics from the event.

You’ll also find a little promo video for 2010. Alistair Begg is already confirmed to come and do the Bible readings, and we’re hoping that the Getty’s will join him to lead the music. You can expect to see another strong line up of speakers and seminars next year.

Bible by the Beach

Bible by the Beach
Bible by the Beach is a new Bible-teaching conference that begins in May 2009. The event runs over the bank-holiday weekend, 1st-4th May 2009, and is held at the Congress Theatre complex in Eastbourne. It is best compared to Keswick – you come to Eastbourne, find your own accommodation and then come along to as many or as few sessions as you like. The cost of an adult delegate pass is just £50, with children (under 16) just £1!!

The conference is the initiative of the Bishop of Lewes, Wallace Benn and has been organised by a number of local ministers from different denominational backgrounds, including my dad. In the first year there is already a strong line up of speakers including;

  • Wallace Benn, Bishop of Lewes
  • Terry Virgo, New Frontiers
  • Paul Williams, Christ Church Fulwood
  • Kent & Barbara Hughes, Wheaton College Church
  • Mike Ovey, Principal of Oak Hill
  • Simon Vibert, Vice-Principal of Wycliffe
  • Andrew Baughen, St. James’ Clerkenwell

And some more… plus Stuart Townend will be leading the music, and performing a concert.

Wallace Benn on GAFCON and Lambeth

Wallace BennHow he’s been enjoying GAFCON and why he won’t be going to Lambeth…

Video on SydneyAnglicans

There’s loads of other videos there, little snippets from the conference including Vaughan Roberts.

Live from GAFCON

The future of the Anglican church is uncertain, but it seems inevitable that in the coming months things will start to move… the Lambeth Conference happens next month, but happening right now is GAFCON – Global Anglican Future Conference! This is essentially an ‘alternative Lambeth’, for 300 orthodox Bishops from the Anglican Communion.

Colin Slee (Liberal, gay-agenda-pushing, Very Revd.) described GAFCON on Radio 4 as a “a very small group” – Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Southern Cone, Sydney, plus others – this represents at least half of the Anglicans worldwide.

Wallace Benn, Bishop of Lewes, and Michael Nazir-Ali, Bishop of Rochester are members of the GAFCON leadership team and are there in Jerusalem now. You can watch events unfolding at GAFCON as they are streamed live, see below…

In other news Wallace Benn has been very rude to me, he said in reference to my lovely girlfriend, and I quote – “It’s obvious that God must have given her to you… there’s no way you could have got her yourself!”
