Facial Hair
icon1 Posted by Hugh in Random on 30th Aug, 2007 | No Comments

Recently I have been quite disappointed on this subject… I don’t like having to shave, it’s just a hassle, but I find that before too long I look like a hobo with a ginger beard. But when I leave it, the beard never quite matches my expectations, it’s either ginger, or patchy, whatever it just doesn’t look cool.

Anyway, I’m hoping that one day it may be something like this…

beards

If you’re in Brighton this weekend why not check out the World Beard and Moustache Championship 2007 to see these guys and other weirdos…

Ever Changing
icon1 Posted by Hugh in Random on 16th Aug, 2007 | No Comments

Unlike Jesus Christ (Heb 13:8) this website changes frequently. Partly due to a few design issues I wasn’t happy with and in part due to my desire to procrastinate I’ve sorted out this new theme (credits at the bottom) still on wordpress. I like the colours and it’s a better use of space with two sidebars. Also there’s some Google and Amazon ads down there… if you click on them, I make money - this is part of my ongoing experimentation to see if I can make some money out of the WWW, having failed at Poker, advertising could be it…

Where Cricket and Dancing meet…
icon1 Posted by Hugh in Random on 23rd May, 2007 | No Comments

Popped down to catch some of the cricket today - revision break. Actually I’m on an exam at the moment, a 3 day take-away paper, it’s going suprisingly well. Anyway, sadly Sussex lost by just less than 20 runs. On the plus side, I got myself a picture with two legends, mainly for the benefit of some Strictly Come Dancing fans…

Mark Ramprakash

There you go, me and the dancing legend Mark Ramprakash. He scored 142* and got the MotM award. I think the dancing must have helped his cricket, apparently he’s now 37, so no chance of an England recall. There’s also a picture of me and Mr. Michael Atherton on Facebook, but I haven’t put it here because he was in a mood and didn’t smile. Oh well, back to the Principles of Programming Languages - joy!

My new wheels

Wheels

I thought it was time to get myself some new wheels. After years of struggling round with my big cricket bag over my shoulder, probably giving myself serious spine damage, I’ve invested in some wheels so I can be like lazy people at the airport. Hoorah!

I gave in…

My Ipod I used to be the coolest kid in school… all the so-called “cool kids” thought they were it with their mini-disc players, and there was me with one of the first MP3 players. It was called the Samsung Yepp and had a huge 64mb of memory, which equates to around 20 songs - but I was cool because it played MP3s. Later I upgraded to the Sony HD1 player, with 20gb - I don’t know how many songs that is, but it was more than my music collection at the time. I remember boasting about how good it was, and how much better than the stupid Ipods it was.And now… I’m eating my words, I’m conforming to the pattern of this world, I bought an Ipod. I still maintain that the Sony players are as good as the Ipods, but the software is rubbish. When I got my Sony it took me several days to convert all the MP3s into Atrac files and then upload them - the Sonicstage software it used was pants. Yesterday it took me 15 minutes to upload 8gb of songs from Itunes (which is sooo much better) to the Ipod.

This was quite impressive, but even more than that, it let me upload photos and movies. 30gb of songs, sermons, youtube and my photos - all for just £145! Ebuyer is also wonderful….

New and Shiny
icon1 Posted by Hugh in Random on 13th Apr, 2007 | No Comments

Finally I’ve found a template for Wordpress that I really like! All credit natuarally goes to somebody else, to N.Design Studio in fact. It’s green and blue, and all smooth and shiny, there’s also now another picture of me hiding inside a coat, and right at the bottom some little squares showing the latest posts and comments. There’s loads of other new features I’m experimenting with also… pages as well as posts, like the about page, hopefully I’ll be able to embed the photo gallery into one of those as well. See when you hover over external links you get a preview of the site, kindly provided by snap.com - more interesting stuff may follow :-)

Watching Jaws, back to Brighton, well Hove actually tomorrow…

Annoyed
icon1 Posted by Hugh in Random on 26th Mar, 2007 | No Comments

Annoyed because I stupidly deleted the database which holds all the posts on this blog. Don’t know how many I wrote but they’ve been deleted from back when I started in October 2005. Further annoyed because my webhost seems to write over their backups every 24 hours…

The good news is that I’ve been able to recover some of my more interesting posts (my opinion) from Facebook and from Google cache… which is amazing, the mind boggles at how much server space Google must have. So anyway, I got my Bulgaria diary back and a few “Theological Ramblings” as I’ve now entitled that category. In some ways my stuidity has been a blessing as it has enabled me to purge most of the rubbish stuff about how uneventful my life is… hoorah!

5 Days… and then Word Alive!

Ricky Gervais meets Richard Curtis

Ricky in Africa

Was good to see Extras series 2 last night. I missed this first episode with David Bowie last time round and was possibly the most painful one to watch… it is comedy genius, the scary thing is how much Ricky Gervais is like Brent and Millman.

Some money advice

Getting on with one's own personal finances can be pretty difficult, sometimes. However, there is good news in store for your saving accounts! By investing in insurance, you can protect yourself and your finances from any unforeseen expenses. Insurances like home insurance, van insurance, or the seemingly more obscure caravan insurance can all help with covering your personal items.
